BENNETT
The photographs on this page are courtesy of Lydia (nee White) Bennett, and are photos taken by her and her late husband, Lloyd Bennett (1937-1994). (You can read Lydia and Lloyd's bios by clicking on "B" in the dropdown menu under "People" in the top menu above.)
The photo below is of a ball game on the Sports Field c.1955. The large building in background was the mining company's staff boarding house, that was destroyed by fire on the night of May 20, 1956. St. Cyprian's Anglican Church can be seen immediately left (to the east) of the staff house. While this photo is a little shakey, it is the most complete picture I have seen of the staff house as most others have some obstruction in front of it. Photo by Lydia (White) Bennett.
John H. Bennett (1878-1961) had a general store at The Front that was in operation for most of Bell Island's mining years. (You can read a brief bio of J.H. Bennett by clicking on "B" in the dropdown menu under "People" in the top menu above.) The next 7 photos are related to John H. Bennett family and business.
The first photo below is of John H. Bennett's shop on Main Street at the corner of East End Road (opposite Bennett's Road). Photo by Lloyd Bennett, 1980. The Bennett house is in the left of the photo.

In the photo below, Bob Bennett, son of John H. Bennett, is seen walking west on Bennett's Road. Behind him on Main Street is the J.H. Bennett residence. Part of the store is just visible on the right.
L-R in the photo below are three children of J.H. Bennett: Harold Bennett, his wife Doris, his sisters Doris and Margaret in 1980.
