This is a small selection, from a much larger collection held at Library and Archives Canada (LAC) in Ottawa, of photos featuring Bell Island. Beneath each picture, I give the LAC description in quotation marks. Remarks not in quotation marks are my own observations. If you have any information to add regarding any of these photos, please email me at [email protected]. n.d.=no date attached to the photo.
LAC description: "MIKAN 3305227, House for Office Staff, Nova Scotia Steel & Coal Co., Wabana, Nfld. n.d." This is actually the Scotia Company's Manager's house at Scotia Pier. The first manager, Robert E. Chambers, had this house built for himself in 1899 when the "new" Scotia Pier was built. (What then became the Dominion Pier had been the first Scotia Pier.) The longest resident of this house was C.B. Archibald, who was manager from 1919-1948.
