PEOPLE OF BELL ISLAND
The People of Bell Island pages feature mini-biographies (in alphabetical order by last name) of some of the people who have lived and worked on Bell Island, or have had an impact on its history in some way. Much of the information comes from historical records and newspaper or magazine articles. Some will be from Census records and some from anecdotal accounts by people I have interviewed. It will always be a "work in progress," with information being added as it comes available and time allows. If you would like to add information for yourself or your family, or simply to have your parents or grandparents names added as a memorial to their life and work on Bell Island, get in touch by emailing:

To view the biographies, hover your cursor over the People button in the menu at the top of this page, then choose from the drop-down menu of alphabetical listings.
The button below will take you to a page dedicated to employees who died in the course of their work for the mining companies, first Scotia and Dominion and then DOSCO. The account of each death gives the name, age, primary residence, date of their death (and date of the accident if it was different from their death date), the type of accident and its location. The account also includes information such as the death record and newspaper accounts of the accident.
