When it was a Public group, anyone, whether on Facebook (FB) or not, could see the "Historic Wabana Nfld" FB Group posts, and I had no problem with that at all. So, why did I switch the Group to "Private"?
When I set up the Group in 2016, I had a choice of making it a "Private" group or a "Public" group. I rejected the "Private" group option at the time because in a Private group, only the members of the group can see the posts but, in November 2021, FB decided to change things up, and one of the changes in particular was concerning. The main problem for me was that FB opened Public groups up even more than they already were, to the point where anybody anywhere can now add themselves to a Public group without going through the group's administrator. This would be fine if we could trust that FB could protect our accounts from scammers and the proliferation of nuisance ads, off-topic posts, etc. but, judging from how many accounts get hacked everyday, it can't.
I came up with the idea of this Blog as a place where I can post some of the things that you would see on my FB group if you were a member. You won't be able to comment here in real time like you would on the FB group, but if you want to share your thoughts on anything you see, or even send in your own photos to be included here, you can do so by emailing me (Gail) at: [email protected]

Message about my Facebook Group (Sept. 14, 2024): I created my first Facebook Group (Historic Wabana Nfld) in 2016. Everything ran smoothly with that original Group until early September 2024, when I was locked out of my FB account for reasons unknown to me. When all attempts to recover it failed, I created a new Facebook account and set up a new version of my original FB Group with the number "2.0" added to the title. If you were a member of my original group, you can still access that version and look back through the posts and photos there if you wish, but new members and new posts cannot be added to that old Group. To join my FB Group "Historic Wabana Nfld 2.0", log into your Facebook account and search for "Historic Wabana Nfld 2.0" or copy and paste the following url into your search engine:
