Why do a Blog as an alternative to my Facebook Group?

When it was a Public group, anyone, whether on Facebook (FB) or not, could see the "Historic Wabana Nfld" FB Group posts, and I had no problem with that at all. So, why did I switch the Group to "Private"?
When I set up the Group in 2016, I had a choice of making it a "Private" group or a "Public" group. I rejected the "Private" group option at the time because in a Private group, only the members of the group can see the posts but, in November 2021, FB decided to change things up, and one of the changes in particular was concerning. The main problem for me was that FB opened Public groups up even more than they already were, to the point where anybody anywhere can now add themselves to a Public group without going through the group's administrator. This would be fine if we could trust that FB could protect our accounts from scammers and the proliferation of nuisance ads, off-topic posts, etc. but, judging from how many accounts get hacked everyday, it can't.
I came up with the idea of this Blog as a place where I can post some of the things that you would see on my FB group if you were a member. You won't be able to comment here in real time like you would on the FB group, but if you want to share your thoughts on anything you see, or even send in your own photos to be included here, you can do so by emailing me (Gail) at: [email protected]
Welcome Aboard!
